this type of photography was mostly done in the 1800's in
north and south america as well as europe and it was expensive. propping
them up to give the impression of being alive was of comfort to some
people because it help them remember their loved ones as they were when
they lived. child mortality was very high and sudden, it's why most of
the images are children. in our times this is hard to imagine. our lives
are documented from the womb on and we have no use for post mortem
images anymore.
